The Kentmere Horseshoe, sometimes called the Kentmere Round, is one of the longest and most remote walks in the Lake District. It features specatcular scenery, and is another of the classic Lakeland routes. This 13.5 miles (22km) route starts and finishes in the tiny village of Kentmere, four miles to the north of Staveley (the nearest toilet facilities).This undulating walk of 3,559ft (1085m) ascent includes nine ‘Wainwrights’ of High Street, Thornthwaite Crag, Harter Fell (Mardale), Mardale Ill Bell, Ill Bell, Kentmere Pike, Froswick, Yoke, Shipman Knotts, hence its popularity.
The route is mostly on good, clear paths, starting on hard stony paths before heading round to the soft grass of a wide ridge, with a little boggy section near the end.
This walk is best for fit, strong walkers, however, please rest assured that our Grand Scale Trails are led by a qualified and experienced Mountain Leader, who will support you and encourage you along the way. We will have plenty of rest breaks and walk as a group at all times.
Booking through our ticket link is essential as places are limited. Tickets cost £45 per person or £85 for two people booking together.

Please arrange your own transport and accommodation, if required. Although we hold Public Liability Insurance, we recommend you have your own Travel Insurance to cover your accommodation / travel in the event of cancellation. Please also check the Kit List for essential items.
