Abbey Arts presents: Ken Yates
KEN YATES: www.kenyates.com
" Ontario-born indie-folk artist Ken Yates has a penchant for saying what the rest of us are thinking. Cerulean , his latest album, finds Yates at his darkest and most vulnerable - "the worst pain comes with no bleeding" he writes - as he explores the complicated reality of navigating the world through half-clenched teeth. Yates' "earworms of sadness" have gained him a new legion of fans, who, drawn to his "stunning candidness and relatability" (No Depression), have shared numerous fan covers on social media and helped spur a dedicated surge of audience growth. The new album found great success at streaming, where songs were shared on playlists including "Your Favorite Coffeehouse," "Infinite Indie-Folk", "Fresh Folk," and more. Guest vocalists Kathleen Edwards, Katie Pruitt and Stephanie Lambring lent their talents to the new songs, produced by Ottawa's Jim Bryson. With praise in FLOOD, Atwood Magazine, NPR Music Live Sessions, and two Canadian Folk Music Awards under his belt, Yates has expanded his touring in recent years, supporting acclaimed artists including Passenger, Kathleen Edwards, and Stu Larsen, as he brings his "lyrical vessel of yearning and emotional reckoning" (FLOOD) on the road. KARISSA BONE: www.karissabone.com
Karissa Bone is a Greek-American artist from Saginaw, MI who’s quickly becoming known in LA for her unique, indie-inspired sound and “lyrics that are a masterclass in storytelling” (Early Rising). She expertly crafts a world in between indie, pop, and folk, carving out her own space with clever concepts, muted acoustic guitars, and her signature airy vocals. With a sophomore EP on the way this fall, she's been releasing new music every month and has been featured in The FADER, Early Rising, Fashionably Early, Grrrl Music, The Indie Underground, the Starz network, and much more.Due to her knack for emotional lyricism and talent as a guitarist, pianist, and producer, she's also a popular collaborator in LA and has been recruited to work with some of her favorites voices in pop today (Suki Waterhouse, Ben Kessler, Keir Gibson, Tom Siletto, etc.). You may have also seen her performing in Charlie Burg's Blue Wave Band or debuting her work at 54 Below in NYC for the Write Out Loud Competition.
SAMANTHA MCKAIGE: www.samanthamckaige.com
"Samantha McKaige is a guitar playing, Americana singing, folk and rock loving songwriter who takes inspiration from the landscapes around her, including the forests and peaks of her Pacific Northwest home, the beaches of Northern California, and the rivers of the Rockies. Her eclectic and deeply personal sound reflects musical influences like Caamp, The Highwomen, Pinegrove, The Hotelier, and Gregory Alan Isakov. Her lyric-driven albums and EPs are collections of memories, heartaches, adventures, and stories.
Having played gigs all around the United States, Samantha has shared the stage with artists such as Hunter Hayes, Ezra Bell, The Brazen Youth, Ethan Tasch, Lucy Wainwright Roche and Suzzy Roche at historic and esteemed venues such as Brighton Music Hall in Boston, The Sunset Tavern in Seattle, and Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles."
