About this Event
Join us for a planning meeting to conduct litter clean ups in McDowell County. We will plan to host a volunteer training session to learn about safety and best practices for conducting roadside cleanups.
When:12pm Wednesday, March 12, 2025
Where: 60 E. Court St. Public Services Bldg. 2nd Floor N.C. Cooperative Extension Conference room
NC Department of Transportation runs the Adopt-A-Highway program and has fantastic resources to help volunteers stay safe while removing litter from the roadside.
The City of Marion in partnership with Keep McDowell Beautiful coordinate the Adopt-A-Street program, modeled after the NCDOT and other high-quality programs across the country.
If you are a leader of volunteers this training will help you organize your people, request free supplies from the State, County, or City, and report your clean up for the proper people to pick it up in a timely manner. If your a volunteer on a clean up this training will help you identify potentially dangerous situations, and teach you what to do to keep your people safe.
If you're unable to walk the roadside and pick up trash, this training will help you to be involved as a volunteer driver, volunteer recruiter, or in event promotion. There are ways for everyone to help Keep McDowell Beautiful!
