About this Event
At this Open House, we are opening the gates to our Kedzie Farm and inviting the community to explore this greenspace and learn about the various ways Chicago FarmWorks is investing in East Garfield Park with the support of our community partners. Chicago FarmWorks staff will be onsite to talk about our current farm programming, as well as how you can stay informed about other special events hosted throughout the year. We will also be sharing about some exciting projects currently in the works at our Kedzie Farm and ways we are aiming to develop the greenspace to better serve our neighbors. Visitors will also get the opportunity to meet some of our community partners, such as Breakthrough Urban Ministries, whose work in the community and whose partnership is crucial to successfully carrying out our farm's mission.
We will also be hosting a volunteer opportunity during this event from 2pm to 4pm. You can register to participate in the "Agenda" section of this event page.
We look forward to meeting you!
Please Note: This is an outdoor event that will be held rain or shine, but is subject to cancellation if there is severe weather during the event. Those who RSVP will be notified day of the event regarding cancellation.
About Chicago FarmWorks
For many low-income communities, affordable food, especially affordable healthy food, is in short supply. To help address this problem, Heartland Human Care Services (HHCS), in partnership with the City of Chicago, NeighborSpace, Rush University Medical Center, Breakthrough Ministries, and Our Lady of the Angels Food Pantry, operates two urban farm lots in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood called Chicago FarmWorks. We are able to grow, harvest and distribute our produce with crucial support from our volunteers and our transitional job participants who are working to overcome many barriers to secure permanent full-time jobs. The produce we grow on our two farm lots goes to our local pantry partners Breakthrough Ministries Fresh Market , Mission of Our Lady of the Angels food pantry, and Rush's Food is Medicine Program.
