KAREN
The band first formed as a four piece as far back as 2015. After playing a handful of gigs the band embarked on recording their debut album in 2016. Prior to the albums release Estuary and Holiday was released on The Environmental Studies label run by friend and Bristol legend Paul (Fat Paul) Horlick. The album was completed and set for release but due to disagreements which for legal reasons we won’t go into here the album was never released and remains in a vault to this day.
Davey took a hiatus from the band and focussed on his solo work with the Winter Orphans. Tom and Hugo remained busy with their work with Total Rejection and Loop. Karen briefly reconvening to record the mini ep Filwood Broadway. Now a three-piece, they have now released a new album.. The songs were written and recorded with the minimum of fuss,.keeping the spontaneous approach of the previous EP, it was recorded in 2 days.
About the members
Tom Adams has become the indie bands drummer of choice playing in Secret Shine, Beatnik Filmstars, Total Rejection and The Fauns. He has toured in Europe and the USA and appeared on countless records considered ‘indie’ classics. Tom has recorded sessions for John Peel and 6 Music. He also has his own band The Dukes of Mumbai, who play surf versions of songs including New Orders ‘Blue Monday’ and Kraftwerk's ‘ The Model’ try to imagine that if you can!
Hugo Morgan has been playing bass in The Heads for nearly three decades. The Heads have toured all over the world playing their underground brand of rock music the press have labelled ‘Stoner Rock’. They have released a number of critically acclaimed and influential albums. Hugo’s bass playing is integral in creating the psychedelic sound of the group and it is no surprise that when the band Loop reformed Hugo was asked to play bass. He is currently working on a new Loop album
Davey Woodward was singer and songwriter in 80s indie band The Brilliant Corners. Taking a punk/DIY approach they formed their own label releasing records and enjoying indie chart success including a number of sessions for John Peel. Resurgent interest in the band and the ‘C86’ scene has led to Cherry Red Records releasing the bands back catalogue. Davey formed The Experimental Pop Band in the mid 90s and went on to release albums on City Slang Records gaining much critical acclaim in the music press and broadsheet newspapers. Davey has recorded and released 3 solo albums, two with The Winter Orphans, reviews have called these alt folk rock.
HELEN MCCOOKERYBOOK
Helen McCookerybook was founder member of the bands The Chefs and Helen and the Horns, both of which recorded numerous sessions for John Peel, and released material on independent labels. Now a solo artist, she gigs in the UK, Europe and beyond and features regularly on BBC6 music.
ARREST CHARLIE TIPPER
The band began life as The Charlie Tipper Experiment in 2013, releasing an album and a clutch of singles for Breaking Down Recordings.
In 2015 the band became The Charlie Tipper Conspiracy for no real reason other than they thought it would be a good idea to keep people guessing as to what they were up to.
This happened again in December 2017 when the band became Arrest! Charlie Tipper.
