Immerse yourself in the beauty and tradition of Hawaiian quilting at Kapa Kuiki Workshop, an intimate event hosted by the Ku'ai Kollection. This new series aims to collaborate with local artisans and the history, collections and aina here at Hawaiian Mission Houses. We are excited to collaborate with legendary Native Hawaiian and Kapa Kuiki Appliqué Designer, Puamana Crabbe, of Mō'ili'ili, O'ahu.Held at the Hale Kū'ai and Chamberlain House, this exclusive experience begins with a curator-led look at selected treasured Quilts in our Collection. Guests will learn about the history of Kapa Kuiki (Quilts) in Hawai'i and dive into appliqué design inspiration with Ms. Puamana Crabbe.
You'll BYOG - Bring Your Own (1) Garment- and help to design a one-of-a-kind piece with your pick of (2) of Puamana's new appliqué she has curated, inspired from our Quilt Collection. No sewing experience or sewing machines are necessary! All sewing and appliqué will be done by Puamana herself. Sit back, enjoy, customize and learn about Kapa Kuiki!
You'll then return to pick up your finished garment, complete with Puamana’s signature hand-appliqué design, from the Hale Ku'ai in November 2026.

Cost: $150 • per person; ticket includes 2 appliqué each measuring 6" x 12"
