Kali Shalwar" is a short story by Manto about Sultana, a prostitute who wants to wear a black traditional shalwar on Muharram. Sultana lives with Khudabaksh, a truck driver who sold his lover because of money problems. They go to Delhi hoping for a better life. In Delhi, Sultana meets Shankar, who promises to help her get the black shalwar she wants. But when she receives the shalwar, it turns out that it belongs to her friend Anwari. This surprises them both. The story shows Sultana`s dreams and experiences and talks about the lives of prostitutes with empathy. Manto writes in a progressive style, treating sensitive topics with understanding and showing us the human side that society often ignores.
