Formed in 2013 after meeting through a mutual friend over the Internet, London-based duo Kaleida — aka Christina Wood (vocals) and Cicely Goulder (synths) — quickly started to put together demos, which instantly received a great response from friends and fans alike. Inspired by iconic female vocalists such as Kate Bush, Björk, and Loretta Lynn as well as modern producers such as the Haxan Cloak and Helena Hauff, the duo's mix of breathy synth pop saw them sign to Lex Records for their debut EP, Think. Released in 2015, the EP featured the title track, which also appeared in the Keanu Reeves movie John Wick, raising the duo's profile considerably. That year also saw the pair head out on a European tour with Róisín Murphy. Returning to the studio to record more material, the resulting Detune EP appeared in 2016, while the duo focused on touring and recording what would become their debut album. The first single, Echo Saw You, appeared at the beginning of 2017 and was followed by a slow-burning cover of Nena's '80s classic 99 Luftballons. Their debut album, Tear the Roots, followed in September.
Support: Pivnoy Cowboy (Berlin, DE)
Pivnoy Cowboy is a Berlin-based solo project of multi-instrumentalist Vitalii Zimin. Debut LP ‘Impossibilism’ was released via Dutch label Geertruida in 2020. Live band line-up varies from one to four people on stage. Pivnoy Cowboy's music is a mix of sampled lo-fi drum beats, analog vintage synths, dreamy guitars, strong fuzzy bass lines and out-of-body goth vocals. It's like an unknown substance trip, the effect of which is difficult to compare with previous experiences.
A second LP called Domestic Spiritualism was released in November 2023 via Crunch Tapes Records.
