About the Speakers:
Dr. Syed Abbas Z Naqvi ڈاکٹر سید عباس نقوی | is an Associate Professor of Engineering at University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore. He obtained his PhD from Purdue University, USA, in Computer Sciences. His research areas include: Sparse bayesian learning, Object recognition, Collaborative robots & deep learning.
Dr. Syed Muhammad Rehan-ul-Hasan Gelani Chishti Nizami ڈاکٹر سید ریحان گیلانی currently teaches at Minhaj University Lahore. He has secured Gold Medal in Ash-Shahadatul-Aalamiyyah Fil Uloom Al-Arabiyyah wal-Islamiyyah and 1st Position in BS (Hons) Arabic from Minhaj University Lahore. He is also Adeeb Arabi and Alim Arabi from Darul-Uloom Muhammadiah Ghosiah, Bhera. His fields of interest include studies on Molana Rumi, Allama Iqbal, Said Nursi, Naat and Ilahiyat (Islamic Philosophy).
About the Qawal:
Haji Nusrat Rafiq Qadri Qawal is the custodian of a rich legacy of Qawwali, carrying forward a tradition that spans over five generations. He hails from Bhedia, a village located just 10 kilometers from Kasur, a land deeply rooted in Sufi music and poetry. The family is known as Behdia walay Qawal. The family is deeply associated with both the Qadriya and Chishtiya gharanas of Qawwali.
Born into a family of devoted Qawwals, Nusrat Rafiq inherited his art and passion through an unbroken chain of masters. His father, Muhammad Rafiq, was a noted Qawal, while his grandfather, Sufi Talib Hussain, served the spiritual tradition of Qawwali through Radio Pakistan. His great-grandfather, Ustad Bhalwal Din, was a disciple of the renowned Ghulam Niaz Khan, and his great-great-grandfather, Ustad Muhammad Din Khan Qawal, performed as a musician in the local court.
The Symposium is included in the Rabi-ul-Awwal celebration Jashn-e-Rehmatul-Lil-Alimeen (2025) event by Youth Empowerment Society (YES) and the Auqaf Department, Government of Punjab.
