Perfetti presents photographer Kaishui Yikai Liu’s latest series, Between Your Eyes and Mine, capturing the daily lives and emotional landscapes of Chinese students in the UK through intimate and delicate portraiture.
This exhibition offers a nuanced exploration of identity, belonging, and emotional resilience, reflecting the complexities of the Chinese international student experience. Through a series of carefully composed portraits, Kaishui examines the balance between intimacy and fragility, revealing diverse personal narratives while portraying the individuality of each participant.
Kaishui Yikai Liu is a visual artist specializing in photography, with a focus on identity, personal relationships, and marginalized communities. His work has garnered international recognition, including being shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize and selected as a finalist for Photolucida Critical Mass. In 2023, he won the Photo-Book category at the Belfast Photo Festival. His work has been exhibited at esteemed institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery and National Galleries Scotland, with a solo exhibition at Three Shadows Photography Art Centre.
With Between Your Eyes and Mine, Kaishui continues his exploration of the emotional intricacies of identity and diaspora, using photography to create narratives that resonate deeply with themes of displacement, cultural transition, and self-discovery.
