Kāinga Ora Waitematā Community Evening

Come join us for a vibrant and engaging community evening hosted by Kāinga Ora for the Waitematā (Local Board) area! This event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your neighbours and learn how we are shaping our local communities.

On Thursday, February 15, 2024, starting at 5:30 PM, we will be gathering at the Cox's Bay Pavilion Hall located on Kingsley Street, Westmere.

During the evening, we will have presenters who are experts in urban design and strategy, alternative transport modes and sustainable building. This is also your chance to have a chat with our Development Team about housing projects and initiatives in our neighbourhoods of Westmere, Grey Lynn and Auckland Central.

The presenters will be:

George Weeks - Principal Urban Designer at Kāinga Ora: George is strategic urban designer who co-leads the Sustainable Transport Outcomes. He is interested in the designs of our streets and spaces and how they can make people's lives better.

Joanna Smith - Principal Urban Designer at Kāinga Ora: Joanna brings extensive experience from roles in councils and private design practices in Tāmaki Mākaurau and London. Notably, she established the inaugural urban design team at the former Aucaklnd City Council, leading the pioneering design review panels. Joanna specialises intown centre revitalisation, master planning and housing regeneration projects. Currently, she focuses on state housing schemes and large-scale neighbourhood regeneration projects in Roskill, Māngere, Oranga and Northcote.

Brian Berg - Manager - Carbon Neutral Housing at Kāinga Ora: Brian specialises in creating energy efficient and climate resilient buildings. His projects including one that received the prestigious Supreme Award at the Construction Sector Accord Beacons Award, showcase his commitment to sustainability. Brian's expertise lies in achieving Passive houses with up to an 8 Homestar rating , meticulously balancing factors such as airtightness, insulation, and ventilation to create thermally efficient homes within strict frameworks.

Grant Hawthorne - Project Manager - Waste Programme at Kāinga Ora: Grant specialises in creating sustainable site clearance methods to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill during housing redevelopment. He is focused on our waste minimisation programme that prioritses house relocation and deconstruction over demolition, wherever possible.
