About this Event
Gallery MAR is pleased to present a summer exhibition featuring new work by Lola and Jylian Gustlin, opening July 3rd with an artist reception from 6–9 pm at Gallery MAR in Park City.
Bringing together two distinctive contemporary voices, the exhibition explores the expressive potential of color, material, and perception. Bay Area artist Lola is known for her intensely vibrant abstractions created with tinted epoxy resin, a medium she manipulates on a raised horizontal plane to produce luminous surfaces and gravity-defying drips that have become a signature element of her work. In her newest series, Quiet Places, Lola evolves her earlier layered compositions into quieter, more restrained forms with subdued palettes and shadowy overlays, inviting viewers to experience a sense of serenity while still engaging the emotional power of color.
Complementing this exploration of abstraction, Gustlin’s richly layered paintings investigate the intersection of art and science, drawing on influences ranging from the San Francisco Bay Area Figurative artists to mathematical theories such as the Fibonacci sequence and entropy. Combining traditional painterly techniques with her background in computer graphics programming, Gustlin builds complex surfaces using oil, acrylic, charcoal, wax, gold leaf, pastel, and graphite—scratching, drawing, and sculpting into the paint to create works that explore how perception shifts in an age shaped by technology.
Together, Lola and Gustlin create a compelling dialogue between intuitive gesture and structured systems, offering a dynamic summer exhibition that invites viewers to experience abstraction through both emotional and intellectual lenses.
