Twinning was a weaving art used by the native peoples prior to European contact. Using cordage made from milkweed, hemp, nettle, and other various fibers the woman of these peoples would use two poles stuck into the ground to weave the cordage into bags or even clothes. Posts were often 4ft tall and groups would work together to twine the large items. These bags had many uses whether they be storing food, collecting berries, washing corn, and more while the clothes were good for warmer weather. And that’s just scratching the surface of the possibilities for this art!
