About this Event
Kicking off in March 2025, the JUST Centre will be a new powerhouse of research and action for accelerating a fair and equitable transformation into a low carbon society.
The ESRC has invested £8.5 million over five years for this national Centre to develop new ways of generating evidence about what works where, why, and for whom in sustainable living. The team of researchers based at the Universities of Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Lancaster and Newcastle will be working in the North of England and across the UK to make the evidence base for a just transition accessible, and to co-create the tools and pioneering innovations that will manage the trade offs and maximise the co-benefits to ensure no one is left behind by transition to a lower carbon future.
The JUST Centre is an exciting, impact-led collaboration between academics and nine practice partner organisations: the Institute for Community Studies (Young Foundation), Citizens UK, the Local Government Associations for England and Wales, the Scottish Sustainability Network, British Chambers of Commerce, NHS Confederation, The Runnymede Trust and the Institute for Government.
JUST will be a flagship centre for social science research that joins up people, places and ideas in new ways in order to empower a more inclusive movement for equitable low carbon living in the UK.
Want to learn more about JUST? Join us for the official Manchester launch at the People’s History Museum, in the Engine Room, on 12 March from 17.00-19.00.
Light refreshments will be provided by Open Kitchen Manchester.
The Launch will be an opportunity to:
- Hear from inspiring community actors, businesses, the public sector and government officials leading joined up strategies for decarbonisation, regeneration, and improved quality of life.
- Network with a broad range of like-minded stakeholders eager to collaborate on solutions for low carbon living that are accessible to all.
- Understand and inform the JUST Centre programme and explore opportunities to partner with the Centre.
