The ESB-MACC welcomes the community back to our newly renovated facility with Juntos de Nuevo -a day of reconnection, celebration, and cultural expression. This free family-friendly event is free and open to all.
This reopening is more than a milestone. It is a celebration of identity, creativity, and the enduring cultural legacy of Austin’s communities. The City of Austin’s Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment department is honored to invite you to visit the renovated Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.

12:00pm-9:00pm: Guided Tours, Activities, Food Trucks, Artisan Market, Workshops, Art Exhibits, and Music and Dance Performances on the (Outdoor) Zocalo Stage
Event Highlights- June 6th
- Outdoor stage with live music under the Zocalo. Additional performances will be featured in the Auditorium & Zocalo lookout, including Mariachi, Ballet Folklorico, and Danza Azteca.
- Tours of newly renovated indoor & outdoor spaces.
- All-ages arts, dance, music, theater, and culinary workshops.
- Free children’s art activities in the new youth education classrooms
- Art exhibits on view in the Community Gallery (1st floor) and in the Sam Z. Coronado Gallery (2nd floor).
- Community Resource Fair featuring local nonprofits.
- Artisan Vendor Market supporting local Latino/a/e entrepreneurs.
- Food trucks on siteThe address of the ESB MACC is 600 River Street, at the intersection of Rainey Street and River Street. Affordable parking will be available for $5 all day at the Austin Convention Center 5th St. Garage (601 E. 5th St.). Ridesharing and public transit are also encouraged.
On June 6, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center invites the Austin community to join us in celebration of our Grand Reopening. This large-scale, family friendly event is open to all. There are no tickets or RSVPs required. There will be a free shuttle bus service from East Holly St. neighborhood to the ESB MACC.
New Building Features:
This Phase 2 project includes the addition of new music rehearsal spaces, renovations to performance spaces, classrooms, galleries, office/support space, dedicated storage space, teaching kitchen, as well as, landscaping and gathering spaces. Visitors to the newly renovated building can experience enhanced safety features, rooms with natural light, and a closed/controllable perimeter of the Zocalo Plaza with a shaded structure. The ESB MACC is now under the Austin Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment department (ACME) of the City of Austin.
