The Junior Zookeeper Leadership Program is designed for youth ages 11–14 (or students who have completed 5th grade, whichever comes first) who are ready to take on greater responsibility while gaining meaningful experience at the Red River Zoo.
This program builds leadership, responsibility, and self-confidence while deepening understanding of the Zoo’s mission of conservation and education and the many roles that support daily operations.
Junior Zookeepers leave with practical skills, increased confidence, and a stronger understanding of what it takes to work in a modern zoo setting.
This one-week program runs from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM or 2:00 PM–5:00 PM.
Pricing: $160 for non-members | $140 for Red River Zoo members
The program fee includes the full week of Junior Zookeepers and a program t-shirt for each participant.

June 8-12 Wildlife Wellness

Young animal enthusiasts are invited to step into the world of veterinary medicine and experience firsthand what it takes to be a caring and dedicated veterinarian for the incredible creatures of our zoo. Throughout Wildlife Wellness Week, Junior Naturalists will delve into the essential skills and knowledge required to ensure the health and well-being of our animal friends. Junior Naturalists will actively participate in simulated veterinary scenarios, from administering "treatments" to creating enrichment activities designed to promote our zoo residents' mental and physical health. This immersive experience aims to foster empathy, responsibility, and a deep appreciation for the role veterinarians play in animals' lives. By the end of Wildlife Wellness Week, participants will not only have gained valuable insights into the world of veterinary medicine but will also carry a sense of pride in contributing to the well-being of our zoo's diverse inhabitants. Join us for a week of hands-on learning, compassion, and a chance to become a Junior Naturalist with a heart for animal care!
