About this Event
Making It Count CDC (MIC) is proud to present the Juneteenth No Menthol Poetry Contest — a powerful community celebration held in honor of Juneteenth, the national holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. This event merges the spirit of liberation with a bold public health message: the fight to end the predatory marketing of menthol tobacco products in Black communities.
Hosted at the historic Jam Handy Organization in Detroit, the Poetry Contest will bring together spoken word artists, community advocates, youth voices, and public health leaders for an evening of powerful performance, community connection, and health advocacy.
