About this Event
A special Juneteenth screening of Ava Duvernay's ORIGIN (2023)
Presented by Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education (SCOPE) in partnership with The Miracle Theater Foundation
In honor of the upcoming Juneteenth holiday, join us for an evening of community, culture, and conversation at The Miracle Theater.
The evening will feature a screening and community conversation inspired by the acclaimed film ORIGIN, written and directed by Ava DuVernay and starring Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, alongside Niecy Nash-Betts, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, and Blair Underwood.
ORIGIN is based on the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson, and examines the hidden structures of caste and social hierarchy across societies and histories, connecting the experiences of racism in America with systems of oppression around the world. The film challenges audiences to think deeply about how history shapes our present β and what collective understanding can make possible.
