The event features a gallery talk, hair and identity conversation, barber and loc-care demonstrations, free consultations, music, light refreshments, and more.
Inspired by the themes of the exhibition, FREEFORM: Juneteenth Community Care Day brings together art, hair culture, education, and community care. Through conversation, demonstrations, and free consultations, the event celebrates Black hair traditions as spaces of creativity, self-definition, resilience, and cultural knowledge.
Visitors are invited to engage with the exhibition while learning directly from local haircare professionals about grooming practices, loc maintenance, entrepreneurship, and the cultural significance of Black hair traditions.
This special program features:
Jalisa "Ling Stylez" (@ling_stylez) — a Louisiana-licensed cosmetologist specializing in healthy haircare, loc maintenance, styling, and education.
Landan G. (@landanfades) — a self taught, New Orleans-based barber known for his precision cuts, grooming expertise, and commitment to helping clients look and feel their best.
