The David Ruggles Center tells the story of the antislavery movement in Florence, MA in the mid-1800s. You will learn about abolitionists such as Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglass. You will also hear about a utopian community that produced silk and believed in racial and gender equality. Finally, we will discuss why Juneteenth is celebrated. Though this is a free event, donations can be made the day of the program to the David Ruggles Center. You must register in advance.
