SUMMER SPECIAL Friday 7th June: Take either an afternoon or evening out to unwind - or treat yourself to both for an even more deeply relaxing experience that saves you money too!*
Join us for a journey among the beautiful trees of Salcey, home to ancient oaks and once part of a medieval royal hunting forest. With its origins in the Japanese art of Shinrin-yoku, forest bathing involves immersing ourselves in the woods. Tuning in to our senses lets us relax and reconnect with nature, while research is beginning to reveal how time spent under the canopy of trees gives us a mental and physical boost.
You can choose to join us for 3 hours in the afternoon, 2 hours in the evening - or book both* to give yourself the opportunity to forge an even deeper connection with nature and maximise the benefits of spending time in the woods.
In each session we'll take a gentle walk through the forest, with regular stops for a series of sensory activities designed to calm body and mind. Drawing on the different woodland sights, sounds, and smells present as we move through the afternoon towards the evening and close of the day, you'll be guided to immerse yourself in the natural world and emerge refreshed and relaxed.
If you book for both sessions, the 90 minutes inbetween is yours to do as you wish - bring a picnic or grab food from the cafe and either enjoy the company of your fellow forest bathers or take quiet time for yourself in the woods.
Your guide will be Liz Burfield, who trained as a forest bathing guide having experienced first-hand the benefits of mindfulness and nature on depression. Her sessions are friendly, down to earth, and suitable for anyone who enjoys being outdoors.

HELPFUL TO KNOW:
- To use a discount code: when you click on 'Get tickets' a pop-up window will open. Please use the 'promo code' box at the top of this window to enter your code and then click 'apply' BEFORE proceeding to checkout.
- Parking: parking at Salcey is free for Forestry England members. For non-Forestry England members - to save on the normal cost of £8, please ensure you pre-book your parking with us when buying your ticket. You will then be able to park either all day (weekdays) or for up to an hour after the finish time for your session (weekends) for just £3, giving you the chance to enjoy a more time in the woods or a snack at the cafe during your visit!
- During the session we are likely to cover 1-2 kilometres – this will be at a slow pace. Unfortunately, however, Unwind in the Woods at Salcey is not currently suitable for anyone using a wheelchair, or with severe mobility limitations – if you have any questions or concerns please contact Liz for a chat prior to booking.
