About this Event
Artwalk signing with two local authors!
Join us for an Artwalk book signing at The Haunted Book Shop on June 12th with authors Bekka Laurent and Andy Young. Bekka and Andy will chat with guests and sign their most recent works as shoppers browse our selection of genre fiction, general fiction, nonfiction, poetry collections, and more! Say hi to Mr. Bingley, the world's coolest bookstore cat, and give all the haints of The Haunted Book Shop a "Happy Artwalk!" greeting.
About Ma Fille by Bekka Laurent:
Ma Fille (pronounced mah FEE, meaning my daughter) is a lyrical work of historical and spiritual fiction rooted in Mobile, Alabama’s Creole past.
When Miranda Collins follows her husband to Mobile seeking a fresh start, she instead finds herself unraveling—haunted by waking visions, drawn repeatedly to an abandoned Creole house on Cedar Street, and plagued by dreams of a woman long gone yet impossibly familiar. As her marriage strains under dismissal and silence, Miranda is pulled toward something deeper: an ancestral calling bound to the land, the house, and a buried Creole history that refuses to stay quiet.
Guided by the presence of Minette Nicholas, a free Creole healer from the 1800s, Miranda begins to uncover long-suppressed truths about her lineage, her purpose, and the sacred inheritance carried through generations of women who refused to disappear. Moving across centuries through memory and spirit, Ma Fille weaves the personal and the historical into a story of inheritance, becoming, and recognition.
Rich with emotional depth and immersive historical detail, Ma Fille explores ancestral awakening, feminine lineage, and the quiet power of inherited memory—where a house remembers, and a woman learns to listen.
About Museum of the Soon to Depart by Andy Young:
In the midst of intimate losses, Young searches for her place in history as it unfolds around her: a revolution, a plague, a natural disaster. As curator of her museum, she navigates her own and others’ suffering through intense observation—from the inner mechanisms of grief and illness to the solace of distance provided by photography. The material of the poet’s own life and events on the world stage intertwine, resulting in poems with a staggering range, inhabiting language in ways that ultimately point to its limits.
Two local authors, one cool cat, and all the haints of The Haunted Book Shop await you during April Artwalk at The Haunted Book Shop. See you soon!
