PROGRAM: Tuesday, June 23, 2026, 7:30pm
- Preview: “The Wing and the Shell – A Hummingbird and A Turtle” commissioned by vildwerk., dedicated to conservation awareness through dance. Choreography by Artistic Director Jacqulyn Buglisi with original music composed and performed live by Stahv Danker and Erán Fink and narration by the brilliant Christine Dakin. Lighting Design Jack Mehler; Projection Design: Joey Moro; Costume Design: Márian Talán de la Rosa.
- Restaging of Buglisi’s “Bare to the Wall” on the 30th anniversary of its premiere commissioned by The Joyce Theater for the Altogether Different series;
- Solo “Being Mortal”, a multi-layered meditation on the human condition;
- Buglisi's iconic “Sospiri”, a timeless tragic love story.
The program also features new works by acclaimed guest choreographers and collaborators.
- Renowned dancer/choreographer Lorenzo Pagano, recipient of the Italian International Dance Award as “Male Rising Star”, performs his first choreographic solo “Dream/Existence” (BDT Premiere). Mr. Pagano is a former principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company, and has performed as guest artist with Lar Lubovitch and on the stages of the Paris Opera Ballet, and the Metropolitan Opera.
- On opening night, award-winning dancers Kristine Bendul & Abdiel will have their New York Premiere of “Consortium”. This duet was choreographed by Ron De Jesús and created with the support of a Works & Process residency at The Church in Sag Harbor in January 2026. Pioneers in the field, Kristine & Abdiel have earned distinction for their gender-neutral approach to ballroom partnering. Most recently, they collaborated with BDT on a workshop on the Latin Hustle, made possible through the NYC Council District 3 Cultural Immigrant Initiative award.

The award-winning Buglisi Dance Theatre was founded in 1993 in New York City by Artistic Director Jacqulyn Buglisi with Terese Capucilli, Christine Dakin, and Donlin Foreman, former Principal Dancers of the Martha Graham Dance Company. The company's repertoire of over 100 original dances has been performed nationwide at The Joyce Theater, Lincoln Center, New York City Center, New York Live Arts, Chelsea Factory, River to River Festival, Kennedy Center, Kaatsbaan, Vail International Dance Festival, Kravis Center; abroad in Australia, Czech Republic, Mexico, Italy, and Israel; and is commissioned by such companies as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, among others. In partnership with Lincoln Center, Buglisi Dance Theatre presents the annual Table of Silence Project 9/11, a performance ritual and Call to Action for peace on the Josie Robertson Plaza streamed live around the world in 238 countries/territories, earning Ms. Buglisi the Juilliard President's Medal and a Bessie Award for uniting the community through dance.
