Ken Serious
Ken “Captain Kenterus” Matthews
Born Kenton Emanuel Matthews on September 8th in Manchester, Jamaica, Ken grew up in Prattville, Manchester, and Farquhar Beach, Clarendon. Inspired early by his parents and grandmother, he began performing school folk songs and eventually developed a passion for reggae and deejaying, influenced by legends like Nicodemus, Charlie Chaplin, and Bridgedaire Jerry.
Ken’s first release, “Gone A Sea” (1987) on the Skeng Don label, marked the start of a career that has spanned over 20 years. He worked with renowned sound systems like King Basil Disco and King Stur Mars, and shared stages with icons including Tony Rebel, Garnett Silk, Freddy McGregor, and many more.
A founding member of Rebel Salute, Jamaica’s largest annual reggae show, Ken has toured North America with Cocoa Tea and Louie Culture, performing on some of the biggest reggae stages. Currently based in the USA, he records from his IQuality Music Studio, with recent releases including Rise Above (Blaza Music, NYC), Fit for a King (TMP Records, Detroit), and The World Needs to See (Searus Music Group). His music is available on all digital platforms.
Ken lives by his mantra:
“War is not the answer, only love can conquer. Righteousness shall cover the earth like the water covers the sea. Word, sound, and power!”
He continues to spread positive, spiritual vibes through his music—and the journey is far from over.
