At this Piknik concert, musicians-in-residence João Pedro Gonçalves (cello) and Nour Ayadi (piano) perform three late cello sonatas by Debussy, Fauré, and Chopin. Debussy blends Spanish and jazz influences with French baroque elements, Fauré’s Second Sonata grows from a funeral march written for Napoleon’s centenary, and Chopin’s lyrical Sonata stands out as a rare gem beyond his piano works. Lutosławski’s Grave – Metamorphoses adds a powerful, contrasting intensity to the program.
