Journey to Juilliard: A Benefit Concert to support Hugh PennerJoin us for an unforgettable evening of live jazz featuring Hugh Penner and his Quartet, as well as the Vancouver Groove Orchestra in support of Hugh’s journey to the Juilliard School Jazz Studies program in New York City.
Hugh Penner is a jazz trumpet player from Surrey, BC who first began playing trumpet in Grade 6 after growing up in a musical family. Over the years, jazz music quickly became more than just a hobby: it became a lifelong journey and professional pursuit.
After years of dedication to jazz performance, improvisation, and lead trumpet playing, Hugh has now been accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School Jazz Studies program. He is also the first Canadian jazz trumpet player accepted into the program, making this achievement especially meaningful both personally and for the Canadian jazz community.
This special concert will feature:
- Featured performance by Hugh Penner's Quartet
- Live big band jazz by Vancouver Groove Orchestra
- Burger night dinner option
- Silent auction & raffle prizes
- A community celebration of music and the arts
All proceeds from the event will help support tuition, housing, relocation, and educational expenses as Hugh prepares to move to New York City this fall.
