About this Event
Looking to start a journaling practice but not sure where to begin? Our three-part journaling workshop series is designed to inspire and guide you through the process of building a meaningful and sustainable writing routine. Led by Jonita Davis, an accomplished writer, journalist, and Adjunct Professor of Writing at the University of Denver, this series will introduce you to different styles of journaling, helping you find the approach that resonates most with you.
Over the course of three workshops, you’ll explore:

📖 Reflective writing – Discover deeper self-awareness through introspection.
🙏 Gratitude journaling – Cultivate mindfulness and appreciation in your daily life.
This series is perfect for writers of all experience levels, whether you're looking to start fresh or reinvigorate your existing journaling habit. Step away from the digital noise, reconnect with your thoughts, and discover the joy of journaling with a supportive community.

Agenda
Workshop1: Stream of Consciousness Writing & Grounding
Info: In this guided session, we’ll begin with a freewriting exercise, letting go of self-editing and capturing our thoughts as they come. Then, we’ll introduce grounding techniques, using the five senses to bring awareness to the present moment—an effective tool for easing anxiety and deepening self-reflection. Through a combination of writing prompts, mindful exercises, and group sharing, you’ll leave with new ways to approach journaling and a fresh perspective on self-expression.
Workshop 2 (April 26): Reflecting & Connecting with Your Inner Child
Info: Join us for a powerful journaling session where we’ll explore the labels we carry, their origins, and how they shape our self-perception. Through guided writing exercises, we’ll reflect on both the wanted and unwanted labels that influence our daily lives—then practice a visualization exercise to symbolically release those that no longer serve us.
Next, we’ll turn inward and connect with our inner child, writing a heartfelt letter to the younger version of ourselves. This exercise offers a chance to acknowledge past experiences, provide comfort, and offer the words we may have needed to hear but never did. We’ll close with personal affirmations, helping to reframe our inner dialogue and build a more compassionate journaling practice.
This workshop is designed to foster self-awareness, healing, and personal growth. No writing experience is necessary—just bring a journal, an open heart, and a willingness to reflect.
Workshop 3 (May 10): Gratitude Journaling
Info: Join us for a guided journaling workshop on gratitude and positive affirmations. Through reflective writing and discussion, we’ll explore how gratitude journaling helps shift perspective, build resilience, and bring more positivity into daily life.
Participants will engage in prompts to recognize life’s silver linings, create meaningful affirmations, and reframe challenges with optimism. Whether you're new to journaling or looking to deepen your practice, this session will provide practical tools to cultivate gratitude and a more positive mindset.
