Joshua Moehling is the USA Today bestselling author of the Ben Packard series. The Honorable Annise Parker served the people of Houston as City Council Member, City Controller, and Mayor—three terms in each role—making her the only person in Houston history to hold all three offices. She was also the first openly LGBTQ mayor of a major American city, and is now running for Harris County Judge this year.
As Mayor, Annise Parker focused on strong fiscal management, major investments in flooding and drainage, revitalization of Houston’s signature parks, expansion of the bayou trail system, and nationally recognized efforts to reduce homelessness. In 2010, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Parker has served in key national and international leadership roles, including on President Barack Obama’s State, Local, and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience, the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, and the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate. She also held leadership positions with the U.S. Conference of Mayors and served on advisory councils for the Departments of Homeland Security and State.
Most recently, Parker completed seven years as President and CEO of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund and Institute. A lifelong Houstonian and fifth-generation Texan, she is a Rice University graduate, former energy industry executive, small business owner, and longtime advocate for equality and opportunity. Parker and her wife, Kathy Hubbard, have been together for more than 30 years and are proud parents and grandparents.
