Josephine
Josephine is a Minnesota born and raised artist who now spends her time in between the Twin Cities and Chicago. Her work can sound like three songs in one with soft yet driving guitars, lush harmonies and romantic lyrics.
Julia Minkin
A Chicago-based multi-hyphenate artist set to release her debut solo album Not Ready, Julia Minkin has reached her long-desired destination: making catchy music with deft lyrics, memorable melodies, and elegant vocals. “I wanted to have control and create something that was my own and that I was proud of,” she says of the album, conceived and produced alongside her French guitarist husband, Andrew Sudhibhasilp.
Minkin first ignited her musical career in 2014 with the French pop band Kid Francescoli, collaborating on With Julia and Play Me Again. Their songs appeared in major ad campaigns, TV, and film, and the track “Moon (And It Went Like)” became a viral TikTok sensation with more than 118 million streams.
With Not Ready, Minkin proves her chops as a solo artist. The album showcases her subtle humor, emotional resonance, and ear for sweet melody, drawing on everything from “French Touch” and 80s pop to her background in jazz and folk. The songs, she says, tell a story about moving reluctantly toward maturity.
Her often tongue-in-cheek lyrics explore misguided attractions or reflect her complicated relationship with performing as a younger woman. Some songs look back at years spent trying to be pleasing at the expense of making work for her own enjoyment. “I’ve been slowly liberating myself from that,” she says.
As she anticipates the release of Not Ready, her hope is simple: “My objective is for this album to have a life. I just want it to find its listeners.”
Praise for “Daisy,” Minkin’s first single released in October 2025:
““Daisy” is more than a strong debut, it’s a statement. Julia Minkin isn’t just making a solo track, she’s charting her identity, placing herself within the discourse of attention, persona, and performance in 2025 . . . It carries enough polish to draw attention but retains the songwriter’s fingerprints and emotional complexity.” Unsocial Aesthetics
“Known for co-writing viral hits with Kid Francescoli, Minkin now finds her own creative voice, shimmering, rhythmic, and heartfelt . . . After years of collaboration and global recognition, Minkin’s new chapter is one of independence and vision. Produced with her husband Andrew Sudhibasilp, “Daisy” proves that Minkin’s blend of dance-floor energy and introspection is both bold and refreshingly sincere.” Thoughts Words Actions
“‘Daisy’ strikes the dancey pop chord, similar to Kid Francescoli, plus a healthy heaping of La Femme, Metronomy, and Sylvan Esso (especially with Minkin’s vocal timbre and delivery).” The Big Takeover
Blacktop
Blacktop is the Milwaukee-based writing and recording project of multi-instrumentalist and producer, Austin Wood. Resting gently between the genres of folk and surf rock, Blacktop’s sound is adorned with soft-spoken vocals, washed-out guitars, acoustic percussion, and field recordings. When not working full-time in public health or mixing/producing for other artists, Wood writes and records music for Blacktop while drawing inspiration from spiritual philosophies of presence, mindfulness, and impermanence.
The project incorporates a DIY- and analog-based approach to music creation, embracing the creative limitations and hands-on experience of recording to tape. Blacktop’s sound, sitting comfortably alongside peers like Taylor Olin (The Something Specials), Sylvie, and John Andrew & the Yawns, draws from a wide range of influences, from Ethiopian jazz and Latin rhythms from the 1960s–70s to folk artists in the vein of Adrianne Lenker and Gillian Welch.
For live performances, Wood is supported by a group of close friends, including Jordan Taylor, Jacob Olson, Jeremy Robinson, and Jacob Greenberg. Blacktop’s debut album, “Gardening is a Practice, Not an Idea”, was released independently in September 2023 with a deluxe re-release through Nice Guys Records in February 2024. Blacktop’s second full-length album, “Modern Spiritualism”, was released independently on June 18, 2025.
