Join James River Basin Partnership and Watershed for what could be one of the last tours of the Jordan Creek tunnels before the Renew Jordan Creek construction starts this fall. Be guided through the colorful history of the Jordan and Springfield’s efforts to tame its waters. We will be leading eight tour groups, with tours on Wednesday September 25th, Thursday September 26th, Monday September 30th, and Thursday October 3rd at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. We’ll begin by going over the history of the area and the tunnels, and then head into the culvert. There is a large step up and down to get in and out of the tunnels. Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.
Registration required. All participants must be 18 or older.
Meet 319 North Main Avenue in the former Butler, Rosenbury & Partners parking lot. Participants will want to bring a flashlight or headlamp, boots or other sturdy, close-toed shoes they’re ok with getting wet. Depending on water levels, it’s sometimes possible to go in without getting shoes wet, but definitely easier to be in boots.
There are limited spots available, please let us know if plans change and you cannot make it so we can give your spot to someone on the waiting list.
