The Jones Beach Air Show is the crown jewel of Long Island’s summer events. For 2026, there is a major schedule change you need to know about: to celebrate the U.S. Semiquincentennial (250th Anniversary), the show has moved from its traditional Memorial Day slot to July 4th weekend.
Here is everything you need to plan your trip to the 2026 show.
🗓️ 2026 Event Details
Dates: Sunday, July 5th & Monday, July 6th, 2026.
Practice Day: Friday, July 3rd (often less crowded, but full show is not guaranteed).
Time: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Cost: The show is FREE, but parking is $10 per vehicle.
✈️ The 2026 Lineup
The headliners for the 250th celebration are top-tier:
U.S. Navy Blue Angels: The legendary flight demonstration squadron.
U.S. Army Golden Knights: World-class parachute team.
F-35C Lightning II Demo Team: Showcasing the Navy’s premier stealth fighter.
Civilian Icons: Including the Skytypers, Mike Goulian, and the American Airpower Museum Warbirds.
🚗 Getting There & Parking
This event is massive, regularly drawing over 200,000 people. If you don't have a plan, you will miss the planes.
The "8 AM Rule": Parking lots (Fields 3, 4, 5, and 6) often fill up by 8:00 AM. Once they are full, State Police close the parkways. Arrive as early as 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM to be safe.
Mass Transit: Take the LIRR to the Freeport station. From there, the NICE Bus (N88) runs directly to the beach. This is highly recommended to avoid the "Parking Lot Full" heartbreak.
Boating: There is a "No Entry Zone" marked by orange buoys off the shoreline for safety. You can watch from the water, but stay behind the line!
🎒 Pro-Tips for the Sand
The "Sweet Spot": The best viewing is near the Central Mall (the Water Tower). This is "Air Show Center" where the maneuvers are most precise.
Sound Check: The PA system is loud, but the wind can eat the audio. Bring a portable radio and tune in to the local broadcast (usually announced on signs) to hear the pilots' narration.
Protect Your Ears: It’s not just loud; it’s jet-engine-shaking-your-ribcage loud. Bring earplugs or noise-canceling headphones, especially for kids.
Watch the Tide: Don't set your blanket too close to the shoreline at 9:00 AM without checking the tide charts. By noon, you might be underwater with no room to move back!
Backpacks & Coolers: These are allowed but will be searched at checkpoints. Avoid glass and alcohol.
🚫 What to Leave at Home
Kites & Drones: These are strictly prohibited. They are a massive safety hazard for the pilots and will be grounded immediately.
Pets: Unless it's a service animal, keep the furry friends at home. The heat and the noise are generally miserable for them anyway.
Since the dates have shifted to July for 2026, are you planning to go for the full holiday weekend, or just catching the practice runs on Friday?
Additionally: The summer celebration will feature Revolutionary War reenactors, colonial festivities and a high-tech patriotic drone show over the Atlantic for memorial day..
the skies above Jones Beach will trade fireworks for something a little more futuristic: a massive patriotic drone show.. New York State officials have announced a slate of celebrations at Jones Beach State Park to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States and one of the most eye-catching moments will be a first-ever drone light show soaring above the Atlantic Ocean.
The high-tech display is part of a larger series of America 250 events rolling out across Long Island State Parks throughout 2026, but the biggest festivities will land during two major holiday weekends—Memorial Day and the Fourth of July—when the beachfront park will transform into a sprawling outdoor history festival.
Over Memorial Day weekend, visitors can expect a mix of Revolutionary-era reenactments, colonial-style music and family activities spread across the park’s Central Mall. Historical interpreters portraying four New Yorkers who signed the Declaration of Independence (Philip Livingston, Lewis Morris, William Floyd and Francis Lewis) will be on site, along with encampments representing Revolutionary War regiments including the all-Black 1st Rhode Island Regiment and the 5th New York Regiment.
Other costumed figures will include George Washington on horseback as well as Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and James Madison. Members of Washington’s famed Culper Spy Ring, including Long Islanders Benjamin Tallmadge and Robert Townsend, will also appear in character, bringing a particularly local chapter of the Revolutionary story to life.
Beyond the living history displays, visitors can expect fife-and-drum music, colonial cooking demonstrations, themed games and inflatable play areas for kids. Once night falls, the drone show will take over the skies above the beach, creating patriotic imagery in midair against the backdrop of the Atlantic.
The celebrations continue during Fourth of July weekend with another high-profile event: “the FourLeaf Air Show and Fireworks: Celebrating America250.” https://AIRSHOW.jonesbeach.com Fireworks are scheduled for July 4 at 9:30 pm, followed by the annual Jones Beach air show on July 5 and 6.
This year’s lineup includes the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Canadian Snowbirds, the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team and the Navy’s F-35C Lightning II demonstration team, along with additional flyovers and aerobatic performances.
The Jones Beach events are part of a broader statewide initiative highlighting New York’s role in the American Revolution. Throughout the year, parks across Long Island will host themed programs ranging from colonial games and spy-themed workshops to hikes exploring local Revolutionary history.
If you’re looking for a place to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with ocean views, fighter jets and a sky full of drones, Jones Beach may be the place to do it. A drone show is going to take over Jones Beach on memorial day weekend to commemorate the country’s 250th birthday this summer..
