The Joliet Symphony Orchestra (JSO) is pleased to announce the final concert set of its 2025-2026 Season, its 21st, with Artistic Director & Conductor, Dr. Sean Paul MILLS, leading a program of American music by Carl Maria von WEBER, Carl REINECKE, and Antonin DVORAK, and featuring flute soloist Paula CUBILLOS.
Titled “Scintillating”, the JSO will be performing Carl Maria von WEBER’s dark & brooding Overture to Der Freischutz, Carl REINECKE’s brilliant Flute Concerto in D Major, and Antonin DVORAK’s passionate & exciting Symphony No. 6 in D Major.
Guest Artist Paola CUBILLOS, a native of Bogotá, Colombia, is a flutist and educator based in Kansas City, Missouri. She holds a Doctor of Arts in Flute Performance with a focus on Entrepreneurship from Ball State University, a Master of Music from Missouri State University, and a Bachelor of Music from the National Conservatory of Colombia. She has received recognition in several competitions, including the Charleston International Spring Music Competition and both the Graduate and Collegiate Woodwind Competitions of the Missouri Music Teachers Association. As a performer, she has appeared with ensembles in Colombia and the United States, including the Banda Sinfónica de Cundinamarca, Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá (FOSBO), Cuarta Estación Ensemble, Enclave Latino, Springfield-Drury Civic Orchestra, and Muncie Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Cubillos currently serves as Artistic Program Coordinator at Harmony Project Kansas City, where she supports youth music programs and community engagement. She strongly believes in the power of music to connect with others and create meaningful musical experiences on and off the stage.
Performances will take place on Saturday, April 25 @ 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 26 @ 4:00 p.m. Both performances will take place in Sexton Auditorium which is located in the Harold & Margaret Moser Performing Arts Center on the University of St. Francis campus at 500 Wilcox Street in Joliet.
Continuing this season is a series of FREE pre-concert discussions titled “Noteworthy.” These discussions will take place 45 minutes prior to each performance and provide audience members with an opportunity to learn more about the composers, selections, orchestra, and soloists as well as ask questions and interact with our conductor and guests.
Tickets for JSO concerts are available through the JSO website at www.jolietsymphonyorchestra.org, the Music at Moser website at www.stfrancis.edu/music-at-moser/, and at the door beginning one (1) hour before each performance. Adults are $10; Seniors, Alumni & Non-USF Students are $5; USF Students, Music Educators, and Youth (18 & under) are FREE with a current ID.
