The lineup will be featuring brand new QTIBIPOC acts performing standup for the first time in their life. To balance the novelty, there will be some of Berlin's finest pro comedy acts supporting the workshop and the mic. The curated mic will be hosted by -
Anshita Koul, a Berlin based, internationally touring, and independent standup comedian from India. She is also the co-founder of Clit Comedy Club and Festrogen Comedy Festival in Luxembourg. When she is not touring, they are performing, headlining, hosting and producing two monthly comedy shows in Berlin namely Comedy Bazaar Berlin and Word On The Street. She also teaches virtual and in-person joke writing workshops.
Anshita started her standup career on Indian reality TV show TLC presents Queens of Comedy 2017 and was most recently seen opening for Emmy Award Winner Comedian Vir Das on his European comedy tour October 2024. Anshita is a polyglot comedian with two comedy solo hours in Hindi, two solos in English and a Youtube channel with more than 50 comedy sketches in Kashmiri.
38, Indian, Queer, Childfree by choice and an international standup comedian by profession– Anshita is a poster child for everything Heteronormative Patriarchy hates, but don’t worry kids, she hates it back way more. Anshita is a software engineer turned hardware comedian. They have created a name for themselves in the English comedy scene in Europe with their political satires, funny punch up routines and an unfunny itch to decolonise standup comedy.
Anshita has conducted several in-person and virtual joke writing workshops in and outside of Berlin. Here are some of the reviews -
"I'm really grateful for the opportunity to have learned comedy basics from Anshita. They are not only funny as f*ck but also a loving and supportive comedy coach! The group and atmosphere enabled me to step out of my comfort zone and share what I've written even if I was insecure about it. Having learned joke writing techniques and getting a boost of confidence at the open mic, I feel a bit more prepared to be funny on stage."
- Lotti, Brandenburg
"Anshita is an unassuming helper and ship leader who worked ‘with’ us as we waded through the noise when presented with our writing prompts. By the end of the 4 weeks, I, who know nothing of comedy writing, had produced 5 mins worth of a coherent set. The magic! I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to get their creative juices flowing and learn fun stuff along the way. Anshita also provided us with a safe space to try our sets, that was the cherry on the top!"
- Yamini Girey, Director of Project Management, Cloud Software Group
"It was a perfect combination of practical exercises, theoretical basis, and personal experience of an excellent practising standup artist. Anshita doesn't just give theory; they give practical advice- from simple things (such as how important timing is in group performances) to how you can incorporate body physics into a punch. Don't worry: This is not a workshop where you write unfamiliar words for two hours into a notebook only to put it later on the shelf and never open it again. After a workshop with Anshita, you have a better sense of your boundaries, get recipes for your comedy writing routine, and in my case, accept the fact that an open mic is a test of the material; you can make a bad joke, and that's okay, it's the process of perfecting the joke. I got the courage to apply for my first open mic a few weeks after the workshop. I used the work from one of our exercises in my performance. And it wasn't as scary as I imagined it would be."
-Маріам Агамян, Writer, Ukraine
"How do you teach joke writing, you ask? Methodically, patiently and with serious sincerity. Thank you Anshita for this incredible gift you gave us in the form of a Comedy Writing Workshop. Thank you for teaching us foundations, for encouraging us to open up and practice, to laugh with us, to raise us when we felt unsure, to share with us your story of finding your voice, for inspiring us and lastly but most importantly for showing us how words truly heal. So much love for you and your craft, see you on-stage, off-stage überall Berlin."
- Nainy Sahani, Writer & Digital Marketing Director, Berlin
"I did a workshop with Anshita just before performing stand-up onstage for the first time. When I showed up, I didn't even know how to introduce myself onstage. I had a set, but I didn't feel like it was very cohesive. After the workshop and incorporating Anshita's helpful feedback (she's really good at taking what you have and helping you make it funnier), I felt so confident about my set, and I had a great time at my first comedy open mic!!"
- Dera Luce, Freelance Artist Berlin
"Thanks Anshita for this wonderful, mind-bending workshop! These were my first steps in comedy and you made them so pleasant with your inspiring & spot-on feedback. You really gave us not only your time but also your energy & commitment. The group was great too; lots of laughter and loveliness all around."
- Tünde Voll, Netherlands
"I just performed my first ever stand-up of my LIFE! And it's all thanks to Anshita, no doubt about it. We had the workshop the same morning and when I showed up my first thought was - how the hell am I going to write, edit, perform a stand-up set in 4 hours. How indeed. That's the magic of our teacher. She is understanding, patient, super knowledgeable and smart as a whip. Her confidence rubbed off on me."
- Deepti, Berlin
"After many years of fantasizing about doing stand up I finally dared and went to Anshita's workshop, they're super lovely and it was an absolute pleasure to share the day and the mic with them later on. I feel humbled and blessed. Thanks so much for being at the beginning of this new adventure."
- Gabi Luna, Paris/Berlin
"Before attending this workshop, I had only tried stand-up comedy once, performing for a small crowd. After that experience, someone in the audience suggested that I reach out to Anshita. From the moment I connected with Anshita, it was evident that she has a deep passion for humor and a genuine dedication to sharing her knowledge with others. Her approach to teaching is both kind and considerate, making the learning process very enjoyable. Participating in her workshop was not just educational but also a truly wholesome experience. Anshita creates an environment where everyone feels welcome and encouraged, fostering a space where we can explore our comedic voices with confidence. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone so generous with their time and expertise. Thank you, Anshita, for making this journey into stand-up comedy such a rewarding and enlightening one!"
