About this Event

Joint Directorates Race Equality Catalyst Groups Event

Theme: Pride and Power

Date: Wednesday, 23rd October

Time: 2:30 – 6:00 PM

We’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Joint Directorates Race Equality Forum, themed Pride and Power, in alignment with Black History Month. This event is a celebration of progress, a space for reflection, and a call to action as we continue our journey toward race equality across Camden.

What to Expect

This event will serve as:

  • A networking opportunity for staff across all levels
  • A chance to raise awareness and celebrate progress, especially for those less familiar with the work underway
  • A signal of ongoing commitment — acknowledging that while progress has been made, there is still much more to do
  • A recruitment opportunity — inviting more colleagues to get involved in this vital work

Agenda Highlights

  • Welcome and Introduction by Dionne Usherwood (Head of Children's Commissioning and Health Partnerships)
  • Directorate updates from Corporate Services, Supporting Communities, and Adults and Health
  • HR Update & Q&A on the Discrimination Support Hub
  • Updates from the Women’s and Men’s Progression Networks
  • A Panel Q&A featuring key voices including Nana Bonsu (Director of Relational Practice) and Councillor Eddie Hanson, Mayor of Camden
  • Achievements & Recognition Awards led by Jon Rowney (Chief Executive)
  • Networking and Asian Food to close the event

This event is primarily focused on addressing the disproportionate experiences and challenges faced by Black, Asian, and other global majority staff within Camden. These issues have been highlighted in previous Pulse Surveys and are part of the critical work initiated in response to the M**der of George Floyd. The forum provides a safe, reflective space to deepen conversations around race equality, representation, and anti-racism across our organisation.

While the event is open to all staff, it is intentionally designed as a space where global majority colleagues can lead and engage in meaningful dialogue. This reflects Camden’s ongoing journey toward race equality and our commitment to centring the voices of those most impacted.

We also acknowledge that some colleagues from non-global majority backgrounds may feel underrepresented or that their specific experiences are not being addressed. If you feel that current initiatives or data (such as the Camden Pulse Survey) do not reflect your experience, we welcome open conversations. Please reach out to Leadership or HR to explore the data, discuss any disproportionality, and help shape future efforts to ensure broader representation.

This event is one part of our ongoing commitment to inclusion. We value every voice and every contribution in making Camden a truly inclusive place for all.
