ulsa native Johnny Mullenax grew up surrounded by music and picked up a guitar at age five. In his teens, he followed his family to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas — showing up with just his guitar and crashing for the night inside a standup bass case.By 18, he was sneaking into clubs with a friend’s ID to play in a live hip-hop band backing rappers. “Life is too short to play one style of music,” Johnny says. “If you have an opportunity to try something different, you should give it a shot.”
With influences ranging from AC/DC and The Ramones to John Coltrane and Parliament, Mullenax blends genres effortlessly, crafting what he calls “a funky country bluegrass good time for working folks.”
