Justice Melody J. Stewart, the first African American woman elected to the Ohio Supreme Court, will be the featured speaker at the 2nd Annual John Brown Institute Fall Lecture. Justice Stewart has accomplished many firsts in her life and she is an authority on social justice in our state. We are honored to have her speak to this year's theme: Liberty and Justice for All: The Powers of Reading, Writing and the Law.
Executive Ilene Shapiro is the evening's presenting sponsor in celebration of the Society's 2024 Centennial year.
GinaKaye Maddox, John Brown Institute (JBI) committee chair, with assistance from the JBI committee members, is happy to confirm that Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries, the inaugural speaker in 2023, will give this year's welcome and he will be the emcee.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for light refreshments with the lecture starting at 6:30 p.m. at the City of Joy Enrichment Center near the Society.
Patrons and donors are invited to a meet and greet with the guest speaker and emcee at the Society. Please contact the Society office for sponsorship opportunities.
College students are free but will need to register ahead of time and then show their ID at the door.
