About this Event
Sunday, March 15, join us at Syracuse Stage for Short Story Sunday at 5:30 PM, featuring a discussion of, hosted by Black Citizens Brigade. At 7:30 PM, attend the performance followed by a talkback with playwright-in-residence Kyle Bass.
We are offering the first 20 participants to join a collective conversation about the play. Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright August Wilson, the play examines Black life in the early 20th century through questions of identity, freedom, and spiritual reclamation in the aftermath of the Great Migration.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to expanding public access to literature and the performing arts, encouraging audiences to engage with August Wilson’s work both on the page and on the stage.

August Wilson (1945–2005) was a two-time Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright and one of the most significant voices in American theater. Best known for The Pittsburgh Cycle (also called the Century Cycle), Wilson authored ten plays chronicling Black life in the United States across each decade of the 20th century. His work centers Black history, oral tradition, spirituality, and everyday struggle, giving voice to lives too often excluded from the American stage. Wilson’s legacy endures as a foundational force in American drama and Black cultural memory.
