About this Event

Legendary producer and record label boss Joe Boyd talks to Brian Eno at Foyles about And the Roots of Rhythm Remain, Boyd’s landmark history of global music.

Joe Boyd has spent a lifetime travelling the globe and immersing himself in music. An early protagonist of the ‘world music’ movement of the 1980s, he has witnessed first-hand the growing popularity of music from Africa, India, Latin America and elsewhere. In And the Roots of Rhythm Remain, Boyd sets out to explore the fascinating backstories to these sounds and documents a decade of encounters with the most extraordinary musicians and producers who have altered the course of music around the world.

Joe Boyd is a record producer and writer. Artists he has produced include Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, R.E.M., Fairport Convention, ¡Cubanismo!, Toots and the Maytals, Toumani Diabaté and Taj Mahal among many over the course of a nearly sixty-year career. As a film producer, his credits include the Aretha Franklin documentary Amazing Grace, Scandal, and Jimi Hendrix.

Boyd will be in conversation with musician, producer, visual artist and activist Brian Eno. Eno first came to international prominence in the early seventies as a founding member of British band Roxy Music, and immediately followed with a series of highly influential solo albums. His visionary production includes albums with Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, whilst his long list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie, David Byrne, Grace Jones, Karl Hyde, James Blake and many others. In recent years he has released a series of new albums including Small Craft On A Milk Sea and LUX.

This event will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Doors will open from 6:45pm.
