About this Event
This lecture will examine the brief life of Joan Eardley from childhood in Sussex and London, student life at the Glasgow School of Art and her subsequent sojourn in Glasgow and Catterline until her early death aged 42. Interwoven into this life will be an exploration of the development of her contrasting artistic styles of depicting Glasgow slum children and the remote landscapes of the Scottish coastal cliff-top village of Catterline overlooking the North Sea.
Our lecturer, Dr. June Neilson, lived in Catterline for 12 years. Her insight into the village and Joan’s sojourn there will be given, particularly since June lived for a time next door to Annette Stephen, herself an artist, and the person who introduced Joan to Catterline.
This PowerPoint lecture will illustrate Joan’s life and her paintings in some detail.
No previous knowledge of the topic is assumed, and all are welcome. Tea and coffee will be served. There is no need to print out and bring your ticket, as we will have a record of your booking.
