Jivamukti Yoga is a modern yet deeply rooted method of yoga that integrates vigorous physical practice with spiritual philosophy, meditation, chanting, and compassion in action. Developed by Sharon Gannon and David Life in the 1980s, this practice bridges ancient yogic teachings with contemporary life, making it both transformative and accessible.
Each class weaves together five foundational tenets:
- Shastra (scripture): study of yogic texts and teachings that illuminate the path.
- Bhakti (devotion): cultivating love and surrender through chanting and intention.
- Ahimsa (nonviolence): fostering compassion toward all beings, including ourselves.
- Nada (sound): using music and vibration to deepen presence.
- Dhyana (meditation): quieting the mind and finding stillness within movement.
Under the guidance of Ganapati, one of Ayama’s senior teachers, students are guided through an intelligent vinyasa sequence accompanied by inspiring themes, Sanskrit chanting, and moments of reflection. The class is designed to awaken both strength and sensitivity — connecting the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga into one cohesive experience.
