JUSTIN THURGUR 'MANY FACES' ALBUM LAUNCH, FEAT. DELE SOSIMI
Justin Thurgur has been at the heart of the UK’s World Music scene for over twenty years, primarily through his collaborations with the Afrobeat maestro Dele Sosimi and with the pianist Kishon Khan. He has worked with the likes of Cuban giants Giraldo Piloto, Changuito and Julito Padron, with Nigerian drum legend Tony Allen, with Damon Albarn’s Africa Express project, which included Cheick-Tidiane Seck and Fatoumata Diawara, with Tony Kofi, Bukky Leo and The Selecter. He is perhaps most known as the trombonist from the multi- award winning ‘folk’ group Bellowhead. Their split in 2016 led to him forming his own band and releasing his debut album as a bandleader ‘No Confusion’. This album saw him returning to his roots, a deep passion for Jazz, but with heavy influences from the international music community he’s been immersed in since the mid-90’s.
This concert is celebrating the release of his new album ‘Many Faces’.
The album continues the musical journey which has defined Thurgur’s career; celebrating the coming together of different musical voices and the breaking down of borders.
It includes some of the leading African and Cuban artists currently in the UK, plus tracks written with Dele Sosimi and with two rising-star singers, Sahra Gure and Jade Pybus (the latter of whom will be featuring in this concert).
The line-up:
Justin Thurgur - trombone
Graeme Flowers - trumpet
Simeon May – tenor sax
Kishon Khan - piano, Rhodes and Hammond organ Dele Sosimi – piano, Rhodes and Hammond organ Suman Joshi - double bass
Tansay Omar - drums and
Jade Pybus - vocals
