About this Event
This class will briefly cover Carter’s roots in rural Georgia, his naval career, and his path to state Senator and Governor. I’ll then turn to his triumph in the 1976 Democratic presidential primary and his defeat of Gerald Ford. Although Carter only served one term, he achieved more in four years than many do in eight. I’ll mention his failures but dwell on his successes, especially in foreign policy. I’ll conclude with his post-presidential activities.
K. Paul Jones has a Master’s in International Relations from Columbia University and a Ph. D. in modern European history from the University of Wisconsin. He has taught for Renesan since 2007. Last semester he taught “Hitler and Stalin: Parallel Studies in Tyranny.”
