Jillian “Jill” Brown is a beloved kindergarten teacher at George J. Plava Elementary School, mom of Brody, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. Jill is active in the community, serving on the Browns Run Trail Committee and instructing the German Masontown Public Library summer reading program. She has been teaching for 24 years, 19 of which as a kindergarten teacher. She is known for integrating creative hands-on activities for her students to make learning fun. Jill is always one to volunteer her time or make a contribution to help raise funds for a variety of community programs. She is consistently the first one to call and ask what she can do to help, whether it’s making and donating a basket for the local Fourth of July celebration or bringing a meal to a friend who just had a baby or offering to organize an event at school. In March, Jillian went for a routine mammogram and received unthinkable news – a large mass was discovered in her left breast and thus began Jill’s journey. Within two weeks, she underwent a biopsy, and after a series of tests and multiple appointments, Jill was ultimately diagnosed with breast cancer. She began weekly chemotherapy treatment on April 29th, which she will continue for six months, followed by a surgery to remove the mass. As a testament to Jill’s resilience and her commitment to her students, she never missed a day of school while undergoing chemotherapy other than the day of treatment itself. Since the day she was diagnosed, she has carried herself with strength and grace.
Jill’s Journey was organized by Jill’s friends and family to support Jill in her treatment and to give back to someone who gives so much to others. The Jill’s Journey logo incorporates butterfly wings because Jill loves butterflies, a symbol of hope. Jill’s Journey is seeking golfers, volunteers, sponsors, donations, and raffle baskets for the Jill’s Journey Golf Scramble & Steak Dinner to be held on October 5, 2024.
All proceeds from the Jill’s Journey Golf Scramble & Steak Dinner will go to “Jill’s Journey” to aid in Jill’s care not covered by insurance. All proceeds remaining after Jill completes her treatment will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a CharityWatch top-rated breast cancer research organization.
