About this Event
A transformative spiritual experience that integrates nature, movement, music, and black lived experience to cultivate a deeper awareness of God, self, and community. This is not a traditional hike. It is a culturally grounded discipleship experience rooted in the belief that God is encountered not only in scripture and silence, but also in the lived realities, rhythms, and expressions of everyday life.
At the core of this experience is a theological framework known as Hip Hop Hermeneutics. This approach affirms that Hip Hop is not merely music or entertainment, but a cultural language shaped by the lived experiences of struggle, resilience, identity, and hope within Black communities. As such, it functions as a legitimate lens through which individuals interpret life, meaning, and even scripture.
At its core, this experience is built on these truths:
Hip Hop, like the spirituals and blues before it, carries:
- Culture is not separate from faith. It is a site of revelation.
- Hip Hop carries lament, prophetic critique, testimony, and hope rooted in lived experience.
- Spiritual formation is not about rejecting culture, but engaging it with intention and discernment.
- This experience creates space to encounter God through nature, music, reflection, and community.
- It reflects a liberative approach to discipleship that affirms God’s presence in every dimension of life.
