JAZZBIRD NIGHTS: DENNIS ROWLANDVocalist Dennis Rowland is a beloved figure in the world of jazz and theater, known for his smooth baritone voice and magnetic stage presence. A Detroit native now based in Phoenix, Rowland gained international acclaim as the voice of the legendary Count Basie Orchestra from 1977 to 1984, performing alongside icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, and Tony Bennett. He is featured on the Basie Band’s Grammy Award–winning album On the Road and has graced major jazz festivals and venues worldwide. In addition to his musical achievements, Rowland has starred in numerous Arizona Theatre Company and Phoenix Theatre productions, earning induction into the Herberger Theater Center Hall of Fame in 2007. After overcoming a near-fatal stroke in 2012, he continues to inspire with his resilience, passion, and dedication to performing and music education—returning to the stage stronger than ever.
