About Lena Bloch
Lena Bloch is a Russian-born, new American immigrant composer and ensemble leader, traveled through Israel and Europe, performed in Holland, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Canada, Russia with Embryo, Steve Reid, Keith Copeland, John Marshall, Alvin Queen, to name a few. After earning her Master's Degrees in performance (Cologne Conservatory, Germany) and in composition (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) Lena moved to NYC in 2008, working with musicians like Connie Crothers, Sumi Tonooka, Vishnu Wood, Mala Waldron, Roberta Piket, Kim Clarke, Harvey Diamond, Antonio Ciacca and her own quartet Feathery, with Russ Lossing, Cameron Brown and Billy Mintz (albums Feathery (2014) Heart Knows (2017), Rose Of Lifta (2021), Live At the iBeam (2022). Recipient of Chamber Music America composing commission grant 2022 and Brooklyn Arts Council grant 2024. Lena is also an active educator and clinician, member of Jazz Educators Network and a 2016 judging panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts.
About Russ Lossing
American pianist, composer and improviser Russ Lossing, based in New York City for over 35 years, is a master of jazz and improvised music with a singular, original language and phraseology. He has toured world-wide playing major jazz clubs and festivals both as leader and side-man performing and recording with Paul Motian, Mark Helias, Billy Hart, Samuel Blaser, Michael Formanek, Eric McPherson, Tim Berne, Billy Mintz, Tyshawn Sorey, Cameron Brown, Gerry Hemingway, Ralph Alessi, Mat Maneri, Drew Gress, Oliver Lake, Kirk Knuffke, Gerald Cleaver, Gordon Grdina and many others.
Lossing played with master drummer Paul Motian over a period of 12 years performing and recording including week-long stints at the Village Vanguard as a member of Motian's Quintet.
Russ Lossing has 23 records as leader on European and American record labels hatOLOGY, Ezz-Thetics, Sunnyside, Cleanfeed, Fresh Sound, Double Time, Steeplechase and OmniTone labels. In 2015, he founded his label Aqua Piazza Records. Lossing was named Rising Star in the Down Beat Magazine Critics Poll from 2015-2023.
Lossing is drawing global attention for his unique vision, deep integrity, and thoughtfully humanistic voice. A master of the moment, Lossing electrifies audiences worldwide. A deeply intellectual and emotional improviser, he casts a spell over the room and gives audiences an unforgettable musical experience.
About Billy Mintz
Billy Mintz was born in Queens, New York.
Throughout his life Mr. Mintz has taught privately and done clinics at schools around the world, including the Berklee School of Music, NYU, California Institute of the Arts, North Texas State University the Dick Grove School of Music, Musikgymnasium in Innsbruck, Austria, Long Island Drum and Percussion Club, Eagle Rock H.S., Arizona State University at Tempe, and University of Arizona at Phoenix,. He also taught extensively while on tour with various artists in Sydney, Australia, Tel Aviv, Israel and Wellington, New Zealand.
Mr. Mintz currently lives in New York, where he performs with the Alan Broadbent Trio, Roberta Piket Trio, the Russ Lossing Trio, and Tony Malaby, among others.
In recent years, Mr. Mintz has taken on new roles as a bandleader and composer. For the past 15 years he has led the Two Bass Band, a ten-piece ensemble which features his compositions and arrangements. He also leads the Billy Mintz Band (with Tony Malaby, Rich Perry, Adam Kolker, Hilliard Greene and Roberta Piket) and performs solo drumset concerts.
As a soloist Mr. Mintz has performed extensively on both coasts of the US as well as internationally.
