ABOUT JOSTEIN GULBRANDSEN (guitar)

Jostein Gulbrandsen is a guitarist, composer, author and educator, originally from Norway, based in NYC since 2001. He has released three albums under his own name, "Twelve"(2007 Fresh Sound New Talent", “Release of Tension"(2011) and "Looking Ahead" (2018 Curling Legs records).

He holds a Master's Degree in Jazz Performance from Manhattan School of music. His best-selling method book "Modern Jazz and Fusion Guitar" was released on the world’s largest music publishing company Hal/Leonard in December 2016.

Jostein Gulbrandsen has performed with his Quartet and trio at Rochester International Jazz Festival, Trondheim Jazz Festival(Norway), Nordic Jazz Festival(Washington DC,) Faro International Guitar Festival (Portugal)l and Acoustic Landscapes Guitar festival. He has also performed at Kongsberg Jazz Festival, Birdland, Blue Note NYC, 55 Bar, Smalls, BB Kings Blues Bar, Hard Rock Cafe NYC, Scandinavia House/Victor Borge Hall, Blues Alley and The Kennedy Center. He has held master classes at Trondheim Jazz Festival and The Music Conservatory in Agder(Norway) in Faro(Portugal)and at Hobart and William Smith Colleges(USA).

ABOUT DAVID AMBROSIO (bass)

David Ambrosio is one of New York City’s finest freelance musicians and educators for the past 20 years. He is the co-leader of two collaborative bands, Grupo Los Santos and 40Twenty, as well as being a part of many groups including George Schuller’s Circle Wide, the Matt Renzi Trio, Eri Yamamoto Trio and the BMI/New York Jazz Orchestra led by Jim McNeely. He has also performed with such jazz greats as pianist Kenny Werner, Terry Gibbs, Buddy DeFranco, George Garzone, Joseph Jarmon and Ralph Alessi. David recently released his second recording as leader entitled “MOMENTS IN TIME” available on the SteepleChase Label.

With degrees in Classical composition and Jazz performance, David has a broad musical palate that has become intensified by some unique travel experiences. In 2001 he had the opportunity to perform in Cuba with Grupo Los Santos, Max Pollack’s Rumbatap and local Afro/Cuban folkloric music and dance ensembles. Soon after that he began what has become an 12-year period of intense study of Afro/Cuban Bata drumming with master drummers Miguel Bernal, Carlos Gomez and Carlos Aldama. He has frequently toured in Central and South East Asia on behalf of the US State Department as a performer and clinician. David is currently on faculty of both the New York Jazz Academy and the Queens College Center for Preparatory Studies in Music.

ABOUT ADAM NUSSBAUM (drums)

A very versatile drummer who generally plays in advanced settings, Adam Nussbaum is considered a major asset no matter where he appears and one of the finest jazz drummers of the 1990s. Although he started on piano, bass and alto, he eventually settled on drums.

Nussbaum studied at the Davis Center and City College of New York, and by 1978 was making a strong impression in the jazz world, playing regularly with both Dave Liebman and John Scofield (1978-83). Other important associations through the years include Stan Getz (1982-83), Gil Evans, the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band, Gary Burton, Steve Swallow, Michael Brecker, Don Grolnick, James Moody, Sonny Rollins, Art Pepper, Joe Henderson, John Abercrombie, Sheila Jordan, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, NHØP and Charles Lloyd, along with countless others.
