About this Event
Join us for a special evening celebrating the musical legacy of George Semper and the rich jazz and soul heritage of Imperial Avenue.
This gathering brings together musicians, artists, and community members to honor the historic music scene that once made Imperial Avenue a vibrant center for jazz, rhythm & blues, and cultural expression in San Diego.
The evening will feature live music, storytelling, and reflections on the musicians and venues that helped shape the corridor’s cultural history.
This event is part of “A Day in the Life of Imperial Avenue,” a week-long exhibition and series of events highlighting the artists, musicians, businesses, and community leaders who have shaped this historic neighborhood.
Come celebrate the music, history, and spirit of Imperial Avenue.
We are especially grateful for the participation of Fro Brigham of the Brigham Band, as well as a virtual appearance by Joel Semper, the son of George Semper. The evening will also feature a DJ spinning classic George Semper recordings and a special presentation of Norman Baynard’s archival photographs documenting Imperial Avenue from the 1940s through the late 1980s.
