For some time now, our team has been thinking of ways to go beyond our walls, without falling into the easy trap of "taking jazz elsewhere". To explore new avenues and broaden our scope beyond conventional jazz, we're taking on the umpteenth challenge of creating a festival punctuated by the summer and winter solstices, and exploring the theme of letting go. And if we're going to let go, we might as well lead by example. From June onwards, Jazz Station will be offering a series of evenings dedicated to clubbing, but not just any clubbing: instrumental clubbing above all! And of course, it would be too simple to offer you just one reason to party with us.
Let's be honest: jazz suffers from solid barriers, those of a milieu based on openness but clearly white-masculine, seen as elitist when it's not really, old when it's not at all, cerebral yet so organic. Our team wants to deconstruct the stereotypes of our environment, its cocoon, its prejudices and its comforts, by embarking on other paths than those we develop within our usual programming. Through improvisation, trance and corporality, music and dance, our ambition is to propose events that are inclusive and experimental, while remaining eminently festive.
By collaborating dynamically and confidently with our partners, we can already think together about how best to bring philosophical reflection to bear on the relationship to bodies and diversity in our society, and in our city: openness, queer culture, sexuality, living together, and so on. These are still fairly taboo subjects in the music sector (and in jazz in particular), and are often vectors of sexism and macho tendencies.
These vibrant evenings will feature live concerts (experimental, techno, house, etc.), dedicated clubbing jams, performances and workshops, inviting everyone to learn, listen, dance and express themselves freely in a festive and creative atmosphere.
