Following the members of Preservation Hall, is the up and coming 16 year old New Orleans piano playing phenom - River Eckert. Fresh off of a packed full band show to thousands of fans at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's Blues Tent, River is surely set to become one of the best musical talents of his generation. In recent times, River has shared the stage with some of The Crescent City’s most powerful and talented musicians. His new album features legendary Meters’ bassist - George Porter Jr., organist Ivan Neville and many more of the City’s best musicians including his father Jake Eckert. From a very young age, River has been surrounded by music. Immersed in the styles of legends such as Professor Longhair, James Booker, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Fats Domino, Art Neville among others, he is passionate and dedicated to “carrying the torch” of the New Orleans piano tradition. River’s young career is progressing quickly and he is playing several big festivals across the country this summer with his band.
River will be performing an hour long set on the Saenger's beautiful vintage Steinway Baby Grand Piano. For the last few songs of his set, the members of Preservation Hall will join River on stage. DO NOT MISS this very special young man as he shares his musical talent with us on the historic Saenger stage!
After this special showcase of New Orleans Jazz music, the show will kick it up a notch with the big Brass-Rock-Funk sounds of one of the best bands on the Gulf Coast - Blackwater Brass!! Performing all up and down the Coast for over a decade, Blackwater Brass has stood out as a mighty force of music and movement in South Mississippi. These days, the band only gets together a few times a year.. for special occasions such as Biloxi Mardi Gras Balls, Mobile’s big St. Patty’s Day celebrations, Fly Llama’s annual Llamapalooza event & the occasional show at Ground Zero. This is a rare opportunity to catch this seasoned local party band at the historic Saenger Theatre!!
Blackwater Brass will perform a 90 minute set of music to close out the night. Be sure to stick around until the end of the show for a special moment featuring River Eckert, Pres Hall Members & Blackwater Brass!
